Led by Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, a medical doctor and former U.S. naval officer, Muslim scholars held a press conference in Washington on Nov. 17, 2015, to release an 18-page Open Letter that denounces terrorism and rejects so-called Islamic State’s interpretation of the Qu’ran. “We reject interpretations of Islam that call for any violence, social injustice and politicized Islam. . . . It is forbidden in Islam to kill the innocent.”
